It takes about 10 days after planting for fluted pumpkin (ugu vegetable) seeds to germinate and they can start to be consumed at 4 weeks of growth which is the recommended time for the first harvest or when the stems are long.

It is also recommended that you make use of your hands or knives to cut the stem of the fluted pumpkin leaves just a little distance away from the bottom of the stem during harvesting.

How long does it take fluted pumpkin to germinate?

As you can see from the image above, your hands should be positioned where you have the nodes and then cut. The fluted pumpkin pod is ripe for harvest when the tendrils are dried and sometimes they fall off on their own once they are fully matured. The ugu seeds generated from the matured pods are then used during the planting period.
