The Turkish van cat is a powerful, big-bodied cat of Middle Eastern origins. It is totally white, with just its tail and face being coloured. Since it is so uncommon, when this colour pattern appears in other cat breeds, it is frequently called a “van” pattern.

These cats love to climb, jump and explore. They are active and athletic. Turkish vans prefer to run around the house and follow you from room to room in quest for excitement, however, they occasionally cuddle up next to you.

Even in its country of origin, the ancient breed known as the Turkish van remains uncommon. It organically originated in the area of central and southwest Asia i.e the present-day countries of Iran, Iraq, and parts of the Soviet Union and Turkey.

The original cats were simply referred to as “vancats,” and the breed’s name comes from the names of a nearby lake and city which were both named Van.

In 1955, the first Turkish van arrived in England. Turkish van was consequently used as the breed’s name as the Turkish van and Turkish angora were mistaken for one another at first.

In 1982, the Turkish van was eventually made available in America. The Cat Fanciers’ Association and the International Cat Association both recognize this breed.

The breed matures slowly, taking three to five years on average to finish developing and reach its full weight of up to 20 pounds. The breed tends to live long and in good health. they have a maximum lifespan of 12 to 17 years.

The largest cat breeds include the Turkish Van. This cat has broad shoulders and a top-heavy body. Although the cat is average in length and has slightly longer back legs than front legs, neither the cat nor its legs are extremely long. They can leap very high due to their big paws, bulging, and firm muscle composition.

They take a long time to mature, and this could take three years or longer. Turkish van cats have been known to grow as long as 3 feet (1 m) from nose to tail tip.

When the Van is a kitten, its ears are typically very wide and gradually get smaller as it gets older.  With its high cheekbones, stunningly bright eyes, and straight, Asian nose, is considered long for a semi-longhair van cat, this cat has a beautiful bright eye look.

Despite having a similar appearance, the Turkish van and Turkish angora are separate breeds that evolved separately. In addition to having greater colours and patterns, the Turkish angora is smaller and has thinner bones than the Turkish van.

It is crucial to avoid overfeeding your Turkish van because it is already a sizable cat. Keep its weight down to avoid health problems.
