Good day, and thanks for reaching out!
1. When it comes to selling horse mackerel commercially, the ideal size usually ranges from 15 to 30 centimeters, which is about 6 to 12 inches in length. This size is generally preferred by buyers and markets because, within those sizes, the fish are mature enough to have a good amount of meat without being too large, which can make them less desirable. Therefore, the above-mentioned sizes are often the most commonly preferred sizes for both fresh markets and processing.
2. Regarding how long it takes for a horse mackerel to reach this size, it usually takes about 1 to 3 years to reach a size suitable for commercial sale, depending on environmental conditions such as water temperature and food availability. Their growth rates can vary based on factors like the availability of food, water temperature, and the overall environmental conditions.
At this size, the weight of a horse mackerel is usually between 150 and 300 grams, which is about 5 to 10 ounces. This weight range is equally optimal for processing and selling, as it balances size and ease of handling.
