Strategies for Maintaining Soil Fertility in Continuous Cropping Systems: Crop Rotation and Cover Cropping

Continuous cropping, the practice of growing crops on the same land year after year, can significantly impact soil health. While it offers advantages like increased efficiency and reduced labor, it also poses challenges like soil nutrient depletion and erosion.

Cover crops also help to prevent soil erosion by reducing wind and water runoff. Some cover crops, such as legumes, can fix atmospheric nitrogen, enriching the soil with this essential nutrient.
