How to Increase Poultry Egg Production

Every poultry farmer will often be willing to find out how to increase poultry egg production in order to maximize profits.

As I often say, the poultry farming business can be highly profitable if properly managed and I am always willing to share those helpful tips with you to ensure a successful poultry farming business.
The number of eggs that a laying hen produces each day/month/year and the number of years that a laying hen produces eggs depends around certain factors like:

1. Proper Management of pullets prior to lay.
2. The breed of the laying chickens.
3. Light management in the poultry house.
4. Poultry space allowances that are available to facilitate laying.
5. Type of Feed and Nutrition.

Therefore, if you are interested in increasing egg production of your laying hens, here are a few different things you can change in their environment. Below are the changes you need to make within your poultry environment to enhance egg production among laying chickens;

1. Add Light to the Poultry Housing

Since chickens require approximately 14 hours of sunlight to lay an egg, this means that as the daylight decreases during the fall and winter months, your chickens will begin to lay fewer eggs.

However, to get more eggs from your laying chickens, then you need to place a lightbulb in their houses or coops to recreate the hours of sunlight they require. However, keep your light on a timer to ensure that your chickens do not receive more than 16 hours of sunlight per day as required.

2. Create a Clean, Safe Environment for the Laying Chickens

First you have to introduce birds to their new surroundings one to two weeks before they lay to help me get used to their new environment and become comfortable with the environment before laying. To lay their eggs, your chickens require a clean, safe house/coop and nesting area.

Their egg production rate will decrease if they are stressed due to predators or unfavorable weather conditions. Therefore, care must be taken to ensure the prevention of predators or unfavorable weather conditions within the poultry housing.

Keep any threats to a minimal level and their coop warm; you can keep the temperature between 40 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. You can always add a heat lamp for extra warmth if necessary to ensure that and also make sure your chickens have a soft surface to nest in the case of deep litter system of raising laying hens.

3. Feed The Laying Chickens with a Balanced Diet

Increase the amount of poultry feed, including the energy content of the poultry diet you provide to your laying chickens. It is important to provide your chickens with the proper feed so that they can grow, stay healthy, and lay more and healthy eggs.

Ensure proper feeder designs and troughs are available for the chickens. Additionally, y our chickens will benefit from extra protein during the fall and winter seasons. It is also important to provide sufficient nutrients, particularly calcium, to chickens in order for them to lay eggs.

To meet higher calcium requirements, modify the feed formulation with the required quantity of calcium source according to the quantity of feed you are producing or making.

Along with providing a balanced diet for your chickens, it is also important to provide them with constant access to fresh, clean water and equally maintain strict biosecurity within the poultry environment to maintain proper hygiene.
