The list of recognized types of cat breeds (the different cat types) that can be found worldwide will be listed and discussed in this article with pictures. A carnivorous cat that comes in different shapes, colors, and names is the domestic or wild cat breeds.

1. The Persian / Longhair cat

This long-haired Persian type of cat has a small, rounded face and a broad head, is a breed that was originated from Iran. Its average lifespan is between 12 and 17 years, and it has a thick coat, big eyes, and a short nose.

2. The Bengal cat

The Bengal cat was developed originally in the United States. This cat is a hybrid of a domestic cat and a leopard cat from Asia.

Swirly marbled and the common spotted pattern are their two main fur patterns. They have a white belly, and they typically live between 14 and 16 years.

3. Burmese Cat

Also known as the British Burmese or American Burmese. This cat was developed in Thailand. They normally appear in two forms: an American form and a British form.

The American ones are shorter and broader with a flat muzzle and have an average life span of 10–17 years, whereas the British ones are long and slim.

4. The Scottish Fold

The Scottish Fold is also known as Scot Fold, Lops, and Folds, which are originated from Scotland. This breed can weigh up to 4-6 kg and is a medium-sized cat.

With an average lifespan of 11 to 15 years, the coat can be either long or short, and the ears can either be normal or folded.

5. The Sphynx cat

Canadian Sphynx, Russian Sphynx, and Don Sphynx are such names for the Sphynx cat. This cat was originated in Egypt and Canada. Large, lemon-shaped eyes and large ears are the key features of this breed.

These breeds of cats have an average lifespan of about 15 years and stand out for not having a coat of fur on their bodies.

6. The American curl

This breeds are originated in the USA and have a regular build body with an average lifespan of 13 to 15 years. They are recognized by their curled ears.

7. The American Bobtail

The Bobbed Tail Cat is another name for this breed, which is originated in American. Their bodies are  short and medium in length, as well as their tails.

The width of the hips and the chest are equal. The usual lifespan is between 11 and 15 years, and the ears and eyes are almond-shaped.

8. American Shorthair

The origins of these breeds  is North America and Europe. This breed of cat is athletic and in addition to being huge, it lives for about 15 to 20 years on average and has broad shoulders and well-developed hindquarters.

9. The Siamese cat

13. Munchkin Cat

They originated in the USA and are also known as the Dachshund of cats. Short legs are a distinctive feature of this type of cats.

They are a playful, intelligent breed with an average lifespan of 12–14 years, weighing about 3–4 kg.

14. Cornish Rex

This breed of cat, which is UK in origin, is frequently referred to as the Greyhound of cats. For this type of cat, brown, black, and white are the most common colours and patterns.

It has the softest coat of any of the the cat species, this breed has an average lifespan of 10 to 15 years.

15. California Spangled Cat

California is where this breed first originated. In appearance, this breed resembles a leopard. Its average lifespan is 9 to 16 years, and it has a spotted, muscular body with thick whisker pads.

16. The Cymric cat

This cat, which originated in Canada and the Isle of Man, is also known as the Manx Longhair or Longhair Manx. It weighs between 10 and 13 pounds and has a medium to large, muscular build. The average lifespan is 8 to 14 years, and the body is spherical in shape with big eyes.

17. Devon rex cat

The Devon rex, is originated in England, and is also known as the Pixie cat, Alien cat, and the Poodle. With regard to its luxurious fur coat, this breed is comparable to the Cornish Rex. Their average lifespan is 9 to 15 years, and they have long, slender bodies and huge ears.

18. Bombay cat

The American Bombay Cat originated in the USA. These cats are short-haired, medium-sized, and muscularly built. They normally have golden eyes, live between 15 and 20 years, and enjoy socializing.

19. Ragdoll cats

This specific cat breed is originated in America. It has a big chest and is robust and muscular. Its average lifespan is between 12 and 16 years, and its medium-length coat is thick around the stomach.

20. Somali Cat

24. Savannah Cat

This breed was developed in the USA. It is a tall and slender cat breed. They have an average lifespan of 17 to 20 years and are devoted and excellent jumpers. They are also hybrid cat breed.

25. Tabby cat

26. Toyger

27. Birman

28. Egyptian Mau
